Wellness & Recovery

The Outreach Subcommittee of the Council on Child Safety and Family Empowerment works to develop long-term sustainable child abuse prevention partnerships between Arizona's faith-based organizations and community entities. The subcommittee is focused on evidence-based programs, initiatives, and resources that provide innovative solutions to the pressing needs of vulnerable children and families.

The Outreach Subcommittee has been tasked with:

  • Preparing and updating an annual strategic plan
  • Bringing attention to exemplar programs, initiatives and resources that provide innovative solutions (CarePortal, Angel Initiative, Safe Families)
  • Facilitate increased collaboration between the state, faith-based organizations, and community entities to decrease the number of children in the child welfare system by:
    • Increasing the number of foster and adoptive families
    • Aiding in the support of exiting foster and adoptive families
    • Preventing the most vulnerable from entering into the care of the state
  • Preparing an annual progress report

FY 2017/18 Subcommittee Highlights Include:

  • CarePortal was expanded to Yuma County in May 2018
  • Creation of a comprehensive "road map" to guide Arizona's faith-based communities in providing services to vulnerable children and families
  • Foundational work to create outreach video that demonstrates points of engagement in the foster care process and connects viewers with the work of various organizations they can partner with
  • Execution of SAMHSA's recommendations for responding to ACEs
