Wellness & Recovery

The Prevention Subcommittee of the Council on Child Safety and Family Empowerment works to address the underlying issues that contribute to a child being removed from a home and placed in foster care. The Council is focused on research & data surrounding entrance into the child welfare system and how these issues can be addressed in the context of ACEs and trauma-informed care. 

The Prevention Subcommittee has been tasked with:

  • Preparing and updating an annual strategic plan
  • Developing long-term sustainable partnerships between the state, faith-based organizations and community entities in order to ultimately decrease the number of children being placed in the child welfare system 
  • Facilitate and provide support for the Council Initiatives to help Arizona's most vulnerable
  • Prepare annual progress report

FY 2017/18 Subcommittee Highlights Include:

  • Scottsdale Police Department enters Arizona Angel Initiative (AAI) program in May 2018. Pinal and Mesa Police Department begin discussing AAI implementation
  • Gathering research and data on the Child Care Subsidy via the Arizona Department of Economic Security, including information on preschool expulsion
